The Marine Corps conducted a Quality of Life study in 1993. Results showed that 43% of young, single Marines were dissatisfied with their overall quality of life, and with leisure activities that were available to them. Because such dissatisfaction negatively affects all areas of life-including retention, job performance, and personal readiness--the Marine Corps established the Single Marine Program in 1995.

Now The Single Marine Program exists to improve the Quality of Life for Single Marines and Sailors aboard MCAS Yuma. We focus on the young, single, enlisted Marine or Sailor, although we also welcome geographical bachelors, single parents, and single officers. SMP activities are open to all authorized MCCS patrons.

The program includes:

  • enhancing recreational opportunities
  • encouraging community involvement
  • building life skills
  • developing healthy lifestyles

Become an integral part of the direction your SMP takes. Attend the SMP meetings! Help plan for upcoming events, take advantage of volunteer opportunities, discuss Quality of Life issues and much more!

SMP Recreation Center

The Single Marine Program’s Recreation Center opened its doors on Dec. 25, 2007 and has been going strong ever since. The SMP Recreation Center is open every day all year round.

The center has just about everything for any single marine. If you are into video games we offer free Xbox live on all four of our Xboxs, plus a PlayStation 3 and a Wii gaming system. Our game selection is always expanding with the new games that come out each month. If video games really are not your thing and you are a little bit more of a risk taker we have pool, poker, and ping pong tables with tournaments all the time. If you just want to sit around and relax, we have a movie theater lounge featuring free movie viewing on the weekends. And don’t forget our center is a hot link with free Wi-Fi and desktop computers! So stop by, relax and have a great time; if you have any question please call 269-5794.

What is there to do in Yuma? Well go to the Single Marine Program Recreation Center to find the answer. There is always something going on at the SMP Rec. Center. Some of the up coming events are Texas Hold’em Tournaments, Black Jack Tournaments, Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 Tournaments (great team-building games plus a whole lotta fun), Ping Pong and Pool Tournaments.

Something is always happening; so get out of your barracks and have free fun! For more information about up coming SMP events or ideas about events at the SMP Rec. Center please give us a call at 269-5794.
