POSITION: AREA SALES MANAGER NF-1101-03 (Marine Mart)
Regular Full Time (35-40 hrs/wk) w/benefits
Salary: $10.09 -$12.50 per hour DOE
LOCATION: MCCS, Business Operations Division, Retail Branch, Marine Mart , Main Exchange, Service Station
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Current NAFI employees aboard MCAS, Yuma and all qualified outside applicants.
DUTIES: Manages sales activities in assigned Retail departments.  Ensures department(s) are appropriately stocked, attractively displayed, and adequately staffed to achieve sales goals and service standards.  Establishes and implements an effective Customer Relations Program.  Ensures service provided meets or exceeds Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) standards and customer expectations.  Ensures department or area is fully stocked, and merchandise is attractively displayed to include effective signing, accurate price marking, fact tags, etc.  Adheres to corporate visual merchandising standards.  Coordinates stock replenishment with procurement personnel.  Controls scheduling to ensure staffing levels and payroll expenditures are appropriate to current business conditions and planned budgets.  Reviews department(s) merchandise stock structure, makes recommendations and provides information to Divisional Sales Manager, Buyers, etc, regarding merchandise in stock position, stock assortment, product availability, local demand trends and requirements, etc.   Responsible for the execution of department level retail business strategies, procedures, and policies.  Implements and coordinates departmental promotions and sales events with Store Operations, Visual Merchandising, and merchandise procurement employees.  Provides post-promotion feedback to Buyers, Store Manager, etc.  Works with Retail Operations Support Manager to ensure the following: accuracy in VRR process to include integrity of shelf label management, integrity of plan-o-grams, consistent in-stock position and ensures advertised merchandise is purchased in adequate quantities.Manages the current OPO programs for maximization of in-stock positions of basic reorder items.  Ensures and enforces integrity of Essentus data of all merchandise and products.  Monitors invalid barcodes, price overrides and negative on hands.  Reacts to sales and profit opportunities.  Ensures pricing strategies are implemented at store level for both in season promotions as well as progressive markdowns on clearance merchandise.  Reviews daily sales reports.  As required, recommends/initiate markdowns.  Responds to inquiries and provides assistance in a prompt and friendly manner.   Provides input to Divisional Sales Manager/Store Manager regarding departmental promotions, sales goals and budgets.   Keeps current regarding industry/market trends for assigned departments.  Conducts comparisons with other retailers to benchmark business practices.  Implements “best practices” as feasible.Supervises, trains, and motivates assigned sales employees.  Exercises tact, good manners, and courtesy when serving and assisting customers and fellow employees in the performance of duties. Ensures subordinate employees are aware of sales goals, sales events, and sales incentive programs, store policies, etc.  Carries out policy of courtesy and service, recognizing the importance of genuine, obvious and active attention required in a Retail organization.  Actively seeks to become knowledgeable concerning store policies and services offered in order to effectively carry out the requirements of this position.  Uses effective verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills when communicating with all levels of employees and customers.   Performs other related duties as assigned..
QUALIFICATION & REQUIREMENTS: Three and a half years general retail experience, which was gained in merchandising, service and/or retail sales or other responsible work and enabled the applicant to gain knowledge of merchandising, sales and inventory practices and procedures.  Skills in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships; knowledge of selling floor operation practices and procedures; and the ability to exercise mature judgment.  Substitution of education for experience – 1 year of education above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor’s degree for 3 years of general experience.  One-year progressive specialized experience, which provided background in retail and/or services merchandising and operations and demonstrated the knowledge, skill and abilities required to perform the work of the position.Applicants should posses and have demonstrated the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.  The ability to work effectively with subordinates and supervisory personnel and to analyze data.  The ability to develop improvements in/or design new work methods and procedures.  The ability to follow instructions and adapt to and implement new working situations.  The ability to identify problems and provide solutions.  Proficiency in the use of personal computer to include Internet use and MS application.
